Elder Patriot – Last month President Trump announced a new strategy for the 16 year-old Afghan War that had been poorly mismanaged by his predecessors. You know, the past two professional politicians who know so much more than Donald Trump does.
Trump’s new strategy included sending 5,000 additional U.S. military personnel to Afghanistan to train and assist the Afghan military but this time revised rules of engagement. In other words the gloves were off. The fiercest fighting force in the world would now be allowed to fight the way they were trained to and no longer be forced to hold back and sacrifice American fighters to political correctness.
The president’s strategy also included long-term goals for creating a post war economic recovery zone. Of course, President Trump’s post-war recovery plan was dismissed as wishful thinking by his detractors because, “no one ever wins in Afghanistan.”
Well yesterday the president met with Afghan President Ashraf Ghani during a break of the United Nations General Assembly. And Ghani let our president know just what he thought of Trump’s plan so far:
“It is a difference of day and night. The cloud of uncertainty has been lifted, but equally important is your commitment to a political solution at the end of this process.
“You made this decision on the basis of courage and determination. We salute you.”
Barack Obama had decided that America wasn’t a special place ordained by Providence. He asked for and gladly accepted the great sacrifices of our brave young fighting men and women but, make no mistake about it, he was never fighting for freedom, either our freedom, the Afghan’s freedom, or anyone else’s freedom. Not Syria’s, not Iraq’s, and not Libya’s freedom. Not anyone’s.
No amount of doubletalk can excuse the Iran nuclear deal that has left every one of its Middle East neighbors less safe and less stable in its wake.
There aren’t enough words to describe the sacrifice of these young men and women and their families when that sacrifice was made in vain and without just cause.
President Trump is restoring pride in what America can accomplish militarily and economically in the name of freedom and under the protective eye of God. In his short term in office he has proven the he shares John Kennedy’s commitment to liberty:
“Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe to assure the survival and the success of liberty.”
The difference is like day and night!
